"Woodstone's Hottest Couple" is the twentieth episode of Season 2 in the American sitcom Ghosts and its 38th episode overall. It premiered on April 27, 2023.

Synopsis[]

When teen ghost Stephanie, who lives in the attic, awakens to find that her crush Trevor is now dating Hetty, she decides to sabotage all the relationships at Woodstone.

Plot[]

A Plot: Stephanie wakes up and upon finding out that there are many more couples in the Mansion than there were last year—especially Trevor and Hetty, since she's had a crush on Trevor since he died and became a ghost—decides she will break up all the happy couples in Woodstone Mansion. Stephanie tells Nancy that if she can't be happy, no one can. First, she tells Trevor that tea with Isaac and Nigel sounds boring and he must hate their his and Hetty's relationship is public and he has to do boring boyfriend stuff. Then she points out Flower and Thorfinn don't have anything in common.

Next, she brings Samantha up into the attic to ask her to grab a blanket for her. But the blanket she asks Samantha to move is the one Jay used to hide his new sneakers he bought in NYC. Samantha realizes Jay was keeping this from her. When she confronts Jay and finds out the shoes are Marks's, the bigger secret of Jay's job interview in NYC comes out. Samantha finds out Stephanie has been trying to split up all the couples in Woodstone. When Samantha lies to Mark and says the reason he can't store his sneakers in the attic anymore because a "rare owl" is nesting up there (aka, Stephanie), Flower notes that she loves owls, and Thorfinn adds he does too, because Odin (the Norse god) had pet owls.

They decide this is something in common they can build their relationship on. Samantha and Jay's relationship comes out stronger in the end because she gets Mark to become business partners with Jay and transform the barn into a destination restaurant. When Stephanie is lamenting she's the only teenage ghost on the property, Nancy introduces him to Ralph, a teenage ghost in the cholera pit. Once he takes off his glasses Stephanie realizes how cute he is and they make out on her attic bed.

B Plot: Trevor and Hetty start doing couples'-dates with other couples in the mansion. They already have one planned with Isaac and Nigel and Hetty asks Samantha if she and Jay would like to schedule one with them soon. Thor keeps mentioning throughout the episode that he and Flower are open for couples-dating, though Hetty and Trevor ignore him. Isaac and Nigel have their tea date with Hetty and Trevor, during which they sit with cups of tea they can't drink and discuss all the kinds of tea they enjoyed in life. Nigel likes English breakfast tea, though he jokes that in England they just call it "breakfast tea."

Hetty likes green tea and Nigel does not. Trevor is mostly unable to participate in the conversation and apparently it's been going on for an hour. Trevor tries to contribute by mentioning he liked iced tea in life, specifically the diet peach flavored Snapple. Trevor muses that maybe Stephanie was right, that the friends-with-benefits arrangement he had with Hetty was better than being a real couple. Pete tries to reassure Trevor that couple stuff is fun, but ends up making it sound depressing. Thorfinn does not remember Sasappis had a girlfriend (Jessica). Meanwhile, Hetty is complaining to Isaac and Nigel that Trevor is a lackluster date. She compliments her ex Elias Woodstone saying that even if he was a syphalitic philanderer at least he sparkled at a dinner party.

Isaac even compliments him by saying he could vomit most discreetly. Nigel and Isaac observe Trevor's genitals were on display during their entire tea time and Hetty sadly agrees and says that you never get used to it. Trevor and Hetty have a big fight in front of all the other ghosts, so now they can go back to not being a couple but still sleeping together in secret.

C Plot: Jay comes back from a D&D weekend in New York City with his friends and also bought a pair of sneakers, "The Windstorm Ultra 5," for his friend Mike Cooper which he hid in the attic for him. When stashing them, he unknowingly awakens Stephanie, who is usually only awake for one day a year. When Stephanie asks Samantha to move a blanket for her, uncovering the sneakers, Samantha realizes that Jay was hiding the sneaker purchase from her. She confronts Jay about this and states it's not a big deal. Misinterpreting this, Jay reveals he interviewed for the head chef position at his old restaurant.

Samantha is upset by this since it is a job interview in another city. The sneakers are Mark's, because he doesn't want his wife to know how much he spends on shoes. Jay claims the interview was just indulging in a fantasy, not anything serious. When Mark suggests hiding his shoes out in the barn, Samantha gets the idea to transform the barn into a destination restaurant. Jay admits half the sneakers hiding in the attic are his.
