"Spies" is the first episode of Season 2 in the American sitcom Ghosts and its 19th episode overall. It premiered on September 29, 2022.
Synopsis[]
Sam enlists the ghosts to help secure a good review from an overly critical couple staying at the B&B. Also, Isaac tries to integrate Nigel into his friend group.
Plot[]
As Jay and Sam open the door and greet their first guests, the entry room floor gives out and they fall into the basement. Jay hits his head and gets a concussion. This leads him to wonder if he can also see the ghosts. He runs around the house looking for any ghosts and it seems as if he can see Pete. It turns out to be a delivery man who was standing behind Pete, that Jay mistook for Peet due to the uniform. Sam enters and asks why he is hugging the delivery man. Jay is disappointed.
Sam gathers the ghosts to let them know that their new first guests will be arriving the following day. Sam explains she needs this visit to go well because the first couple who saw the floor incident left, they left a scathing review on Yelp. They ask that the ghosts let the gusts have personal space and that they don't use their ghost powers. The ghosts argue that there is nothing wrong with spying, as normally livings cannot see them.
Nigel has joined the mansion ghosts watching TV. He seems to be put off by some of the others and promptly leaves, telling Isaac to call on him at his shed. Isaac remarks on this behavior and the others tell him to talk to him about it. Isaac is unsure that its a good idea. Hetty agreeing and comparing it to her marriage convinces him to have a talk with Nigel. Isaac went out to the shed to spend time with Nigel and finds himself bored. He asks him why he doesn't want to spend time inside and Nigel reveals that Thor makes him uncomfortable. Isaac says he will ask Thor to dial it back a bit.
Sam is very excited to greet the new guests, a pleasant older couple. Jay brings out welcome cocktails and shows them to their room. Pete warns that he has seen people like this in his days as a travel agent. He says they are outwardly nice but secretly cut-throat. This gets in Sam's head. She finds the couples Yelp profile and shows Jay that it is all negative reviews. Alberta suggests spying on them to see what they are complaining about behind closed doors. Jay is extremely opposed to the spying and Sam agrees with him, at first. When he leaves the room she tells the ghosts to go for it anyways.
Isaac talks to Thor, letting him know he was talking over everyone and being a little rude. Thor points out that Isaac did not have a problem with this behavior until now. Isaac admits that it's actually coming from Nigel, and he feels the relationship is too new to push back against him. Thor's feelings are hurt and he thinks that Isaac is embarrassed of him. He storms off yelling about how just wont bother anymore. Isaac is clueless and thinks it went well.
The guests complain about everything. This leads to the ghosts telling Sam and her seeming strange or overbearing, trying to fix everything. Jay figures out what is going on when he notices Sam's strange behavior. Sam tells him he should use the criticism as an opportunity to grow. This auses the ghosts to tell her about the guests issues with her. They think she is too chatty and she has a hard time accepting this. During dinner service Sam obsesses over changing the things about herself the guests take issue with. Sam is seeming increasingly strange to the B&B patrons.
Nancy, from the basement, comes upstairs and lets everyone know that Thor has moved downstairs and is extremely depressed. Sass and Hetty find out what Isaac said and try to make him go apologize. He says no, that he will not risk his relationship with Nigel. He exits angrily, asking when its his turn to be happy. Sass and Hetty later guilt him by implying he is being disloyal to his friends and it seems to get to him. He goes down to talk to Thor and brings Nigel with him. He apologizes and asks him to come back upstairs. He tells Nigel that Thor is his friend and he has to accept him. Nigel agrees saying he did not know Thor meant so much to Isaac. Nigel apologizes to Thor and they bond over watching ants.
Jay gets fed up with the guests criticisms of Sam and confronts them. The couple gets confused on how they know what they said and they blame it on thin walls. They ask why they were eavesdropping and they reveal that they have seen all of their Yelp reviews. The couple is confused as they thought that Yelp reviews were anonymous. Jay and Sam explain that everyone can see their names and pictures. They panic at the realization. They leave a five-star review and claim their account was hacked. Jay and Sam agree not to use the ghosts to spy on guests.

- The B&B gets a bad review from Josh and Leann from Farnsby & B when the floor caves in.
- Nigel refers to worker ants as "boys" in the episode; however, worker ants are all infertile females.[1] However, this mistake could be due to Nigel's lack of biological knowledge on the insect.

- The good review that Debbie and Tom leave is: "There may be nicer places to stay and softer sheets to lay upon but the proprietors of the charming Woodstone B and B really care about their guests. Sam and Jay not only anticipated our every need but alerted us to the tragic hacking of our Yelp account, which led to the besmirching of some of our favorite institutions, including the delicious and normal-smelling Linda's Shrimp Shack." They give them five stars.
