"Soul Custody" is the premiere of Season 5 in the American sitcom Ghosts and its 73rd episode overall. It aired on October 16, 2025.

Synopsis[]

Sam, Jay and the ghosts attempt to extricate Jay from his deal with Elias Woodstone, the devil. Also, Isaac helps Patience through a crisis of confidence and Pete and Alberta navigate the fallout from their kiss.

Plot[]

As Pete is about to give up his soul, Carol steps in and shakes Elias' hand, selling her soul in the process. Pete is surprised by this, as Carol states this was her way of finally doing right by him and they share banter about donuts while Sam tells Jay of the situation. Regardless, Elias releases Jay from the deal and sends Carol to Hell while the ghosts are shocked and Patience says she would've sacrificed herself if she had nerve like that. As Elias laughs at his success, a light from above shines and saves Carol by bringing her up. The ghosts are speechless to see someone go to Hell then Heaven. Trevor deduces that Carol's selfless act to save Pete and by extension Jay has warranted her entry into Heaven, as Flower tells Patience that this could've been her reward if she went through with it. Patience bemoans this fact.

Overjoyed, Carol remarks on the light and bids farewell to her first husband and the ghosts before she ascends.

- When Elias returns in his demon form, both Pete and Jay exclaim he's using the force by flinging objects.
- Jay makes light saber sounds while fighting Elias and Pete tells Flower, he practices in the mirror every day.
When going over things that prove that Carol is not innocent, the ghosts list several examples.
- Trevor voiced how when she was alive that she cheated on Pete for years with his best friend who she ended up marrying.
- Alberta brings up how Carol and her crime family tricked Pete into serving as a Travel agent, who worked as an oblivious front for their illegal activities.
  - Pete also believes some of the trips that he booked for them were assassinations.
- Flower believes it is clear that Carol voted for Nixon.
Pete still thinks that Carol is a good person, something proven by her sacrifice that led to her ascending.
Jay gives Sam permission to remarry after seven years but refuses to let it be Kyle because he still hates Kyle.
Jay used to smoke in high school and hasn't asked for a cigarette since.
Carol decided to sacrifice her soul to make amends for all the misdeeds she performed, and because of that she was able to move on to the afterlife, also freeing Jay from Elias' agreement.
- This is the first time a ghost goes down and then gets sucked off.
Carol wants Baxter to wait for her.
Patience had a chance to be sucked off had she gone through with it.
