Sophie Brimble (née Woodstone) was the previous owner of Woodstone Mansion, which was then inherited by Samantha Arondekar and her husband, Jay, when she passed away. She is a descendant of Hetty.
History[]
Not much is known about Sophie. She is credited in the Pilot as "Mrs. Brimble", suggesting she married a man of the same name. She had one son, David Woodstone.
In 1985, she allowed scoutmaster Pete Martino to use the property with his girl scout troop. When Pete was accidentally shot through the neck by one of the girls, he told one to go to the house and tell Sophie to call 911 before he died. Afterward, Sophie put Pete's book on a shelf, where it lied forgotten until he had Samantha Arondekar use it as an excuse to bring Carol to the mansion to retrieve it, years later.[1]
In 2000, she was in vacation in Europe while her son hosted a party with work friends to celebrate a promotion. During the party, Trevor died from a pill overdose and his workmates threw his body in the pond without telling anyone.[2]
David died not long after from an aneurysm, leaving Sophie alone.[3] As Sophie became weak and frail over the years, the Mansion fell into disrepair.[4]

Sophie died of old age in 2021, on her bed, unaware that her home was haunted by ghosts and that they had been keeping vigil at her bedside during her last hours. After her death, she briefly appeared as a floating, transparent ghost over her body. She saw the other ghosts and asked them who they were, but she ascended to the afterlife before they could explain in detail. The ghosts were happy that she could ascend so soon after her death, but also thought it was unfair that they had to stay.
As David predeceased his mother, her lawyer Dan Herbst tracked her nearest next-of-kin, her great niece Samantha Arondekar, to tell her she had inherited the house from Sophie (and apparently little, or nothing else). Sam had so little contact with Sophie, that she wrongly believed she died years before.[5]

Sophie was an elderly woman with short grey hair and a slender frame. She appeared as an ethereal ghost in her nightgown.
Personality[]
Little is known about Sophie's personality, though the other ghosts never say a bad word about her and all gather for her passing suggesting they were fond of the old woman and had come to respect her. Trevor concedes that she was "a bit creepy", though.[6]
Trivia[]
- In the original script for the Pilot, Sophie was childless and unmarried, with a mention of her rejecting a marriage proposal from a dentist decades ago. This would make her more similar to her UK counterpart, Heather Button.
- She met Sam when she was a child.
- While her counterpart in the UK series has her age stated, Sophie's age when she died is unknown.
