"Something to Share?" is the fifth episode of Series 3 of Ghosts and its 18th episode overall. It premiered on 6 September 2021.

Plot[]

The episode begins with Alison and the ghosts preparing to celebrate Kitty's 263rd birthday. Due to not being able to see or hear the ghostly residents, Mike begins to feel left out and anxious about the existence of ghosts. At the same time, Button House has been booked by a recreation group. They have been regularly using the house as a temporary base until the roof of the local church hall has been repaired. The ghosts attend an anonymous meeting about alcoholicism out of interest. After the meeting ends, the ghosts have mixed views on people sharing their problems within a group.

Meanwhile, Alison is anxiously waiting for Lucy to respond to her messages. She then decides to take her mind off Lucy by pointing out to Kitty on how she's noticed that she always speaks highly of her own sister. Kitty reveals that she and her sister were meant to attend a ball together until something happened, but their conversation is cut short when the Captain distracts her by informing her that there are balloons upstairs. After Kitty is gone, the ghosts warn Alison to not encourage Kitty to talk about her sister, because Kitty's sister was not as nice as Kitty would like to remember. They tell Alison that if Kitty were to fully realise what her sister was really like, she would be devastated.

Meanwhile, Mike contemplates falling out of the window and hitting his head like what had happened to his wife in order to see the ghosts. However, he changes his mind and instead, uses online sources. In the ballroom, Alison finds Kitty and she decides to encourage her to open up about her sister. It is revealed through flashbacks that Kitty's sister, Eleonor "Ellie" was white, and while it appeared that they had a good relationship, Ellie secretly took advantage of Kitty's naivety and kindness to bully her.

It is not long until their conversation is interrupted again by the ghosts who try to prevent Kitty from remembering what her sister was really like. However, Alison manages to get the ghosts to open up about certain events that happened before their respective deaths. In the kitchen, Mike concocts a "potion" he found on the internet, and recites a spell to enable him to see ghosts. As he passes by one of the guest rooms, he spots a man undressing and because the man's trousers were down, he assumes it is Julian.

In the ballroom, Kitty continues her story where Ellie had manipulated her into accidentally breaking the bust of their mother. This resulted Kitty getting into trouble with their father who didn't allow her to attend the ball as punishment. As she gradually remembers this, Kitty realises what Ellie did back then was mean and selfish. Earlier that day, Kitty was given their mother's dress to wear to the ball after the one she was initially supposed to wear got damaged. This made Ellie jealous prompting her to deliberately get Kitty into trouble so she would not be allowed to go to the ball, and that she could be the one wearing their mother's dress instead.

However, Kitty quickly brushes it aside, claiming that other than that incident, her sister was nice to her until her death which relieves the ghosts. They then disperse when the class for life drawing comes in. Later that day, they continue celebrating Kitty's birthday by playing her favourite film, the Wizard of Oz. At that moment, Mike shows up and he tells Alison that he can now see ghosts thanks to the "potion" he made, which baffles everyone. As he leaves to look for Robin, Robin quietly tells Pat that Mike needs help.

The following day, Alison is tending the vegetable garden when she spots a man, similar to the one Mary described in her dream during their talk. It is later revealed to be a dream when Alison awakens in shock, because not only can she see and hear ghosts, she can now see their dreams.

Historical notes[]

Trivia[]

  • Julian claims he has been sober for "twenty seven years, three months and eleven days" since that is how long he has been dead. He died on 18 March 1993 - twenty seven years, three months and eleven days after that is 29 June 2020, placing the episode as occurring on that day.
  • For most of Kitty's flashbacks, the people around her are played by the usual cast, but in her occasional and brief moments of clarity, other actors take over.
  • Yani Xander is not credited for this episode, though Humphrey's body does appear. It is not known whether someone else was in the costume or if the lack of a credit was simply an oversight.
