"'Come join us at Mojitown,' my coworkers said. 'One lunch won't kill you.' Oh yeah?"
— Sheryl to Sam and Jay about her death, Sam's Mom
Sheryl was the ghost of Sam's mother who died from a severe allergic reaction to shellfish. She appears in the American adaptation of Ghosts in the episode "Sam's Mom."
Biography[]
History[]
Sheryl often pushed her daughter and seemed to be dissatisfied with Sam's choices, especially when her daughter decided to go to school for journalism instead of law. She divorced her husband prior to her death. During their last Thanksgiving together, they got into a heated argument and were never able to reconcile because of Sheryl's untimely death.
Death[]
Six years before Sam inherits Woodstone Mansion, Sheryl was invited to lunch with her coworkers at Mojitown, where she ate a dish containing shrimp and died as a result of a severe allergic reaction.
Sam travels to Ohio with Jay to see if her mother has become a ghost now that she can see and hear them since she never got the chance to say goodbye or reconcile with her mother. Sheryl walks by the entrance to Mojitown, only to see Sam, and is excited to learn that Sam can see and hear ghosts. Their reunion appears to be going well until the topic of Sam's job comes up, and Sam lies about working as a freelance remote journalist for The New York Times while also running the B&B with Jay on the side. Sheryl's nitpicking eventually causes Sam to storm out, and Jay tries to reason with his mother-in-law, saying that she can be a bit too critical and she should try to meet Sam halfway. After talking with Sondra, who'd been her friend while she was a ghost at Mojitown, Sheryl realises that if she has "some kind of breakthrough" with her daughter, she could move onto the afterlife.
When Sam returns, all seems to be forgiven until she realizes her mother is only playing nice to move on. However, Sondra and Peggy Sue later reveal that Sam is all that Sheryl ever talks about. Sheryl admits to Sam that she was so tough on her because she only wanted her to be happy. She invites Sam to return to Mojitown next Thanksgiving so they can reconnect, but Sheryl is suddenly shrouded in pure white light. In her last moments before her ascent, she tells Sam how proud she is of her and they say their final goodbyes. Sheryl then moves on to the afterlife, leaving her daughter and Jay there in the restaurant.
In Sam's Dad, Frank admits that Sheryl drove him away.
