"Perfect Day" is the sixth episode of Series 2 of Ghosts and its 12th episode overall. It premiered on 26 October 2020.
Plot[]
The episode begins with a snowy day at Button House. It is finally the day of the wedding, but Claire and her father have been receiving calls from their friends that they are now unable to make it to her wedding because of the weather. Alison is contacted by Martin the wedding planner who informs them that the waiting staff are unable to come including the DJ player. When asked where he is, he vaguely informs them that he got into a car accident before he is forced to hang up by the paramedics. Elsewhere, Pat, Julian, Mary and Fanny reminisce about their wedding days, but Robin opinionates about marriage. He reminds Pat that his wife, Carole, cheated on him with his best friend, while Julian cheated on his own wife, and Fanny's husband cheated on her with two men.
Claire considers cancelling the wedding because of the weather, but her father convinces her otherwise. Determined to make their first wedding booking a success, Alison manages to convince Claire to go ahead with the wedding since most of her family and some of her friends are nearby, including her partner, Sam. Due to being unable to make their way to the church, they decide to have the wedding service held in Button House much to Fanny's chagrin.
The guests eventually arrive and they assist Alison to redecorate the ballroom, while Mike goes to pick up the vicar. When Claire's partner Sam arrives, Fanny is beyond mortified to learn that Sam is a woman and Alison tells her that same-sex marriages are legal now. This prompts Fanny to retreat to the library where she complains to Humphrey's head about her thoughts on same-sex relationships. Meanwhile, Pat and the ghosts recognises one of the wedding guests but they are unable to remember his name. However, things go awry when Claire goes missing. The ghosts find her hiding in the bathroom and they inform Alison who goes to talk to her. Alison manages to relieve Claire from her nerves by revealing her experience when she was about to marry Mike. Unbeknownst to her, Mike overhears her talking about his bad habits and how she could have regretted marrying him and he leaves feeling hurt. When Sam approaches Mike to ask about the situation, he unwittingly tells her that Claire is doubting about the wedding which hurts Sam. After Alison tells Claire that Mike was the best thing that ever happened to her, it is just enough to convince her to come out of the bathroom.
Returning to the ballroom, Alison is furious when Mike informs her that Sam ran off after he let slip that Claire was nervous. This leads into a brief argument prompting Alison to go find Sam. Meanwhile, the ghosts are still trying to figure out the name of the male guest Pat recognised until Kitty spots his name on the guest list. She alerts the ghosts that the man is "Keith Darren Dean". This causes the ghosts (except for Julian) to finally remember that Keith was the boy scout who was responsible for Pat's death. He misfired an arrow that went through Pat's neck back in 1984.[1] Alison manages to find Sam and she clears up the misunderstanding caused by her husband. At the same time, Claire reassures Mike that Alison loves him, revealing that his wife had told her that he was the best thing that ever happened. The couples realise their resolve and hurry to see one another, ending with Claire and Sam sharing an embrace and agreeing to get married.
Outside, the ghosts follow Keith who approaches the tree stump where Pat crashed the bus when he died. Keith apologises to Pat for unintentionally causing his death, and how he never stopped thinking about him since that day. Pat tells Keith that he forgives him, because it was also his fault for allowing a kid to unwittingly mishandle the bow and arrows. In the library, Humphrey opens up to Fanny about his marriage. He tells her that his marriage was also arranged, but he and his wife did not love one another. Humphrey comments that it would be nice if they could have chosen who they wanted to marry, causing Fanny to rethink about her ideals. Downstairs, Mike plays the Wedding March track as the wedding commences. The ghosts appear to form an archway for the brides, and Fanny shows up with Humphrey's head, placing it back onto his body. As they watch the wedding, Fanny tells the ghosts that if her husband was allowed to choose who he loved, then she may not have been killed and could have found a better husband instead.
The episode ends with everyone having a disco-like party to celebrate the newlyweds. Alison and Mike dance in an embrace before sharing a kiss which causes Thomas to become jealous. He asks Pat if they could establish a 'Fight Club'.
