"Patience" is the first episode of Season 4 in the American sitcom Ghosts and its 51st episode overall. It aired on October 17, 2024.
Synopsis[]
While Sam and the ghosts race to find him, Isaac comes face to face with Puritan ghost Patience for the first time since she was lost in the dirt.
Plot[]
A flashback to 1692 shows Patience being banished from her village by her fellow puritans for being too severe in her practices. She is convinced a 5-year-old may be a witch because she was talking to a doll. Patience vows to make her own community where there will be no joy nor laughter.
It's the day after Isaac and Nigel's cancelled wedding. The ghosts are quickly bored by the return to their everyday routine. Sam discovers that the water bill is unusually high. Mark drops by with some samples for Jay's restaurant, but they have to confer with Isaac to make a decision. The ghosts don't know where Isaac is, but Nancy acts strange when Sam asks and they follow her into the basement to question her about Isaac. Nancy and the basement ghosts confess that Patience came and took Isaac into the dirt.
Isaac pleads his case with Patience.
Meanwhile, Patience has Isaac in a small cave she's made for herself in the dirt. Isaac apologises profusely for leaving Patience behind for over a century and uses his political acumen to steer Patience away from her anger towards him. He claims that he missed her and that she is his friend. Patience, having been alone for so long, has gone a little mad and taken to repeating her own name in an angry bark. She does, after some of Isaac's spiel, accept that he is her friend. To try and get out, Isaac says he will be lonely without Sas and Thor, in an effort to trick Patience into bringing him back to the house.
Everyone freaks out as Sas is taken.
Nancy, with the help of Sas, demonstrates to Sam and the ghosts how Patience came and took Isaac. Sas stands in front of the wall and Patience grabs him and pulls him into the dirt. Everyone is shocked. They surmise that Patience will come for Thor next as the last of the ghosts who were present when she got lost in the dirt, leading Thor to be very nervous while pretending he's just being alert. They try to jog Flower's memory of her encounters with Patience to see if she knows where they might be. Flower remembers a willow tree and Sam has Jay dig a hole under the tree to find Sas and Isaac. Flower then realises she was thinking of a song, much to the chagrin of Jay.
In Patience's lair, Sas plays along with Isaac's friendship scheme in order to keep Patience calm. She leaves, and while she's gone, they talk in the cave about their predicament. They start making fun of Patience's madness as she returns to overhear them. Enraged, Patience says she will cast them into the dirt and lunges at them as they scream. Despite their assertions, Patience brings them back to the basement as she is mostly hurt that she never had any friends, in life or death.
The ghosts form a chain to reach Patience in the dirt.
In the house, the group is at a loss for how to find Sas and Isaac when they walk in, having been set free by Patience. Jay reveals to Sam that increase in their water bill is due to the fountain leaking and Isaac mentions the dripping in Patience's cave. The ghosts decide to go get Patience back and Trevor comes up with them making a chain to reach Patience through the dirt from the basement. Sas and Isaac head the chain and apologise to Patience, not only for how they treated her but for not looking for her until now. Patience returns with the ghosts and bunks with a freaked out Alberta.
