History[]

He's stated that he has a high body count meaning he's had a lot of sexual relationships in his life. He was rivals with Isaac but there was a mutual attraction that they never acted on.

Death[]

While Isaac was admiring Nigel, who was reading his poetry book, from afar with the "Eyesaac," a pre-1800s rifle with a telescope, he sneezed and accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting him in the chest and killing him.

Afterlife[]

Nigel had come to assume a "cowardly sniper" had taken his life until Isaac came forward 250 years later. He was upset but accepts Isaac's apology in the episode D&D. After that, Nigel and Isaac begin regularly "parlaying" to "keep the peace." In the Season 1 finale Farnsby & B, to yell at Isaac about "gallivanting without his knowledge" with Thorfinn. Nigel and Isaac realize that Jenkins was lying to them. Isaac finally reveals that he likes Nigel and that he likes him back.

In Season 2 Nigel and Isaac's relationship progresses, although apparently remains non-physical. In The Christmas Spirit Part One, Nigel and Isaac are under the mistletoe together and although Isaac agrees they should kiss, he then rebuffs Nigel with a palm on his face. Nigel breaks off their relationship. In The Christmas Spirit Part Two, Isaac kisses Nigel in the shed, thus resuming their relationship.

In the episode Trevor's Body, Jenkins tells Pete and Thorfinn that he and Nigel had "liaisoned" on Christmas Eve. When Isaac finds out he confronts Nigel, who reminds Isaac that they were on a "respite" when he and Jenkins "liaisoned." By the end of the episode, Isaac asks Nigel to move in to the mansion with him (not in his room, but in a nearby room). Nigel agrees to move into the library.

In the Season 2 finale The Heir, Isaac receives $10,000 as his half of the book advance and says he wants to spend it on a daybed. Nigel storms off, angry that Isaac would buy a bed that sleeps only one person. At the end of the episode, Isaac invites Nigel to share his room by means of proposing to him, thus making the two engaged.

In Season 3 Isaac and Nigel begin planning their wedding with the help of Hetty. However, in the episode He Sees Dead People, Nigel refers to Isaac's money as "their money", reminding Hetty of her marriage. She urges Isaac to sign a prenuptial agreement, but when Isaac suggests the idea to Nigel, he storms off, accusing Isaac of thinking their marriage won't last, but the two make up by the end of the episode.

In The Polterguest Isaac and Nigel have separate bachelor parties. Nigel receives a lap dance from Jenkins, which he describes as "innocent" and suggests that Isaac also gets a lap dance. Isaac receives one from a stripper named Chris, but he falls in love with him, and in Isaac's Wedding Nigel begins to suspect Isaac's lust for Chris, leading to an argument between the two. Nigel tells Isaac that he can't stay mad at him and forgives him. During the wedding, when asked if he wishes to take Nigel as his husband, Isaac says that he doesn't, leaving Nigel at the altar. The two have a difficult conversation, but Nigel ends up being kind and understanding.

This statement by him is most likely a mistake on the part of the writers, though it's possible Nigel became familiar with the term after becoming a ghost.
  • In the different episodes Nigel's gunshot wound moves, most likely a mistake partaken by the makeup but the wound moves around his blouse throughout the course of different episodes.
  • Nigel has a high body count (not referring to the war).
  • He is one of the only recurring characters to appear in every season finale so far.
