Maddocks is a ghost that haunts the neighbouring land to Button House. Out of all the ghosts, he only likes Robin. At the end of Poached Guests he pretends to move on (with the aid of Robin) just to get the ghosts to leave him alone. His last appearance sees him and Robin agreeing to meet up “on Tuesday”, apparently a regular occurrence (without the other ghosts' knowledge). He was killed when he got caught in a badger trap he'd set on the grounds. He worked as the groundskeeper for the family who lived next door to Button House.
It is stated by Robin that he'd known of Maddocks's existence for ages, but no one believed him as he would often make up other seemingly outlandish stories, except this one turned out to be true, as when all the ghosts go to Maddocks for the first time, he actually acknowledges Robin by name.
Personality[]
Maddocks is very polite and accommodating, calling all the other ghosts by sir or ma'am in an effort to adhere to class distinctions despite the times having changed and him having been deceased for decades. This could be due to his keeping mostly to himself, apart from the odd conversation with Robin, thereby having no sense of the social changes. He seems grounded and is straightforward.
