Joon is the ghost of a Chinese miner from the Gold Rush era. He appears in the Australian sitcom Ghosts and is portrayed by George Zhao.

Biography[]

History[]

Joon emigrated to from southern China to Australia with his elder brother Ying during the Gold Rush of the 1850s. Their first language was Cantonese. While Ying was hardworking, Joon was unenthusiastic and preferred to spend the day sleeping with married women. During an argument with his lover Mildred, she pushed him and he hit his head on a rock on the ground, which made she flee as she thought she had killed him. Joon was not dead, however, and he soon discovered that the rock was a large gold nugget. The hit left the scar on Joon's forehead and a concussion that he still suffers from as a ghost.

Determined to hide the gold from his brother, Joon decided to take it to a place where Chinese weren't allowed in: Ramshead Inn, which would grow into Ramshead Manor decades later. He tried to hide it in several places while juggling attention from Mildred and her employer Anastasia, until Mildred accidentally carried the nugget away, inside a chamber pot, and threw it on the river.

Death[]

Joon's ghost continues to look for his gold in Ramshead Manor. He's convinced that it is the reason he has not been allowed into the afterlife, and that he will be allowed to depart when the gold is buried with his body and he can take it to his ancestors. When Sean considers proposing to Kate he starts feeling attraction to her, eventually realizing that his real attraction is to (any) married women.

Appearance[]

Joon is a young Chinese man noted for his good looks. He wears a Qing dynasty shirt and shoes but lost his pants before his death. He also has a scar in his forehead and his hair in a queue as it was mandatory for Chinese citizens in his time.

Personality[]

Joon is forgetful and permanently confused due to his concussion. He is most preoccupied with finding his lost gold.
