"Hello!" is the second episode of Season 1 in the American sitcom Ghosts. It premiered the same day as the first episode on October 7, 2021.
Synopsis[]
When Sam thinks she's crazy because she continues to see the ghosts of Woodstone Manor, she tries to ignore them, making them even more determined to get her to acknowledge they're real.
Plot[]
Pete goes to confirm Sam's newfound ability to see them when he surprises her in the bathroom one morning. Isaac suggests to his ghostly companions that they take advantage of Sam's ability to see them by scaring her into leaving. Flower, the ghost of a hippie from the 60's (who was killed by a bear) is against it, and Pete suggests that rather than scaring or killing Sam, they befriend her and convince her to not go ahead with the hotel project. Meanwhile, Sam rushes to find Jay and informs him of the existence of ghosts. However, Jay convinces Sam that the ghosts are most likely to be a side-effect of her induced coma and unhelpfully suggests that she ignores them. He encourages Sam to go and rest while he tries to do a bit of DIY on the house himself.
Jay heads into Hetty's room where he damages the wall with a drill, creating a hole. Hetty is aghast by his carelessness and is irritated by Flower's presence (her room is next door to Flower's). At the same time, Isaac and the ghosts decide to harrass Sam in order for her to acknowledge them. This gradually drives Sam insane to the point where she mistakes an electrician for one of the ghosts. Thorfinn becomes engrossed in a documentary about Vikings on TV, while Isaac enlists Trevor's help to search up Alexander Hamilton and himself using Jay's laptop. Still wanting to believe that the ghosts are side-effects of her coma, Sam searches up 'psychotic break', before rushing down to the basement where Jay is trying to fix the boiler. She meets the ghosts of cholera victims. Sam forces Jay to take her to the hospital, but not before ordering him to turn the red valve as per the orders of the ghosts.
At the hospital, Sam learns that from her near-death experience, she now has the ability to see the dead after she unwittingly consults with Doctor Fred, the ghost of a doctor who saw a similar case 85 years before. Back at Woodstone Manor, the ghost of a Native American Sasappis feels bad for driving Sam insane. Isaac on the other-hand is devastated to have found out that his life has been crammed into a footnote. On the way back to the estate, Sam tells Jay that the "ghosts" are not side-effects of her induced coma, they're the real thing. Arriving home, Jay reassures Sam of his love for her but is interrupted by Pete. This prompts Sam to retaliate by confronting the ghosts and admitting that she can see and hear them. After making it clear that she had her husband cannot leave (due to going bankrupt if they pull out of the project), she agrees to grant each of the ghosts' requests in order for them to co-exist peacefully. She then takes Jay down to the basement where they manage to fix the boiler with the help of the cholera ghosts. This is just enough for Jay to realize that ghosts exist. The episode ends with Jay covering up the hole in the wall in Hetty's bedroom with the portrait of her ex-husband, and Sam is drafting up Isaac's bio as per his request.
Quotes[]
- All: (repeatedly) Hello.
- Isaac: Okay, I need you to look up "Alexander Hamilton" on this.
- Isaac: Ah, yes, Beatrice. She was a handsome woman. We slept in separate bedrooms, to keep the flame of our passion burning bright. Now, let's talk military service. I was a beloved commander, though I was known for riding my men hard.
