Griet is the ghost of a maid who was burned at the stake after being accused of witchcraft. She's one of the main ghosts in the German adaptation of Ghosts.
Biography[]
Very little is known about Griet. According to prerelease information, she was born either in 1611 or 1612. In 1656, she cheated at a game of Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst ("I spy with my little eye"), for which she was accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake.[1] However this has not been referenced in the show yet.
Ghost Power[]
Griet has the power to make livings smell burning when they pass through her. She describes this odor as "the smell of Hell itself."[2]
Appearance[]
Griet is dressed in a typical maid's outfit, with a white bonnet and a blue-ish grey vest. All of her clothes and most of her skin is covered in soot, presumably from her burning.
Personality[]
Griet is sarcastic, grumpy, and rather ill-mannered, taking pleasure in tormenting others with gags and pranks. She's religious and also deeply superstitious, believing in the existence of Satan, witches, and all sorts of magical remedies, like lucky pennies that brides need to put into their shoes to protect their wedding day against curses, which she speaks of as if they are common sense.[3] She has an aversion to figures of authority, particularly men that she considers undeserving of leadership and/or taking others for granted.
Trivia[]
- She was born a year before or the same year when her British counterpart Mary died.
