Elias Woodstone was the husband and second cousin of Hetty Woodstone.
Biography[]
History[]
He married his second cousin Hetty on June 3 [4] underneath a tree on the property.[5] From this union they had at least two children, one of which went onto marry and continued the line to Samantha as they became great-great-great-great-grandparents. In The Family Business, we learn that one of their children is named Thomas Woodstone.
His marriage with Hetty was turbulent because he was very controlling not to mention that he had several mistresses, including the artist who painted his portrait (which Sasappis saw) and the maid who seemed to be his favorite as her birthday was used for the passcode for the vault in which he eventually died.
Molly told Hetty over a century later when she was called from the above by a seance that she didn't like Elias. She only slept with him to keep her job in the household in Halloween 2: The Ghost of Hetty's Past. From his affair with Molly, Elias had contracted syphilis, stating everyone fun had it back then.
Elias may have been the father of his vault maker's son as the paternity was disputed right before he was locked in there by the man himself who was upset over Elias's affair with his wife.
According to Hetty he arrived late, drunk, and smelled like the maid's perfume to their wedding. They got married because her father wanted to close a land deal and Hetty was "deemed his most comely daughter."
He mentioned that he once lost Hetty's families good China in a poker game and blamed it on the valet, Gerald. It's mentioned that Hetty sent Gerald to prison for that in Weekend From Hell. Elias also admits to taking all of Hetty's cocaine and replacing it with wig powder.
In the episode The Vault, he said he had made large donations to the church with the hope of getting into heaven when he died.
Elias was an avid poacher and hunter, presumably in different parts of the world including Africa. He had a table upholstered with the hide of a white rhinoceros he shot in Kenya as mentioned in The Vault.
Death[]
At some point, he was locked in the vault after its designer trapped him inside, out of anger at Elias for sleeping with the former's wife. Because he didn't mention the vault, Hetty believed his disappearance was because he left her for another woman. Elias eventually died from either starvation, dehydration, or lack of air (presumably the latter)[6] in the vault and his ghost remained bound to the house. Sam could make out marks of him clawing at the vault door, most likely done as he suffocated. As a ghost, he was unable to pass through the vault and with no other company, he saw only his rotting corpse as a companion and often spoke to it, doing so for the next century as mentioned in The Vault.
When Sam and Jay discover the vault, they open it and Elias' ghost emerged and revealed how he was trapped. Afterwards, he returns to the house and meets the other ghosts, while disappointed that nobody from his time was around and that Hetty now refuses to listen to him now as a ghost. He is also annoyed that Jay and Samantha are hosting a wedding in his home. While walking to vent frustration, he walks through a wedding attendant and causes her to become aroused. He later walks through the bride to be and she gets aroused by Jay.
Soon he vents his anger at Hetty and the ghosts before Sam (who was confused by Jay's statements) walks in and they notice a dog become aroused after walking through Elias. After he confirms walking through a living person, Sam deduces his ghost power is causing people and animals to experience brief sexual arousal by walking through them, piquing his interest. Both Trevor and Thorfinn acknowledged how cool the power was while Hetty noted it was disgusting and how it fitted him. He then schemes to infect everyone so the house will be free of the living residents.
Elias' plan succeed in getting the wedding canceled, though his pocket watch is found and sold to hold off on repossessing. When Hetty tells him that he has a chance to redeem himself, he responds by callously disregarding her words while declaring there is no such thing as good or evil, Elias voices that he will never change. With that, Hetty promptly tells him to go to Hell. At that moment, a red light appears, and a portal opens beneath him, and the shocked Elias falls through screaming before it closes. This shocked Sam and the Ghosts because they have never seen such a sight, while also scaring them to redeem themselves so as to not end up in Hell.
He is mentioned in Halloween 2: The Ghost of Hetty's Past, when Molly's ghost revealed that she only had the affair with him to keep her job and support her son. Molly also revealed that she hated him, something that brings joy to Hetty.
In "Weekend From Hell", he is spat out from Hell in front of Sam and the ghosts. He explains that he was given forty hours to redeem himself or spend all of eternity in torment and his time down below has changed him. Elias soon tricks Pete into selling his soul, saying he'll return it after Hetty forgives him but she refuses, despite the protests. Very soon, Elias speaks to Hetty who after great strain forgives him. Later that night, he decided that he could not contain his wickedness and wasted no time using his power on a living though his actions actually Sam and Jay. After the portal forms, Elias bids farewell to the ghosts and apologizes to Pete offering his hand. However, after Pete grabs his hand, Elias reveals that intends to drag Pete into Hell with him but is foiled by the latter fighting back and knocking him into the portal by himself. Once he is gone, the ghosts comment on the visit while a shaken Pete was shocked by a glimpse of Hell.
In "Alexander Hamilton and the Ruffle Kerfuffle", Elias returns, having been promoted to a demon as a reward for his voluntary recommitment to Hell who now collects souls for the Devil and can physically incarnate.
Appearance[]
Elias has grey hair and mustache that is curled at the ends. He wears a historical-fashioned White Tie ensemble. Underneath, he wears a white shirt and a cream colored vest, matching a bowtie and Detachable Stiff White Wigtip collar. He wears a wedding ring and has a pocket watch attached to his vest.
Personality[]
Elias was a cruel man who liked to toy with his enemies. He kept lots of mistresses and was very controlling and domineering towards his lovers, including his own wife, Hetty. He put himself first when it came to him and his mistresses and wife. He never accepted that he had even the slightest bad side. He was also quite stupid and clueless, never imagining that people would dislike him for his actions.
He did have a trusting side though, as he trusted his apprentice, (whose son was possibly his son) who ended up locking him in a vault and this killed Elias. Because Elias's spirit was trapped in his vault forever, he became insane and even talked to his corpse, his only company. However, he did have a good side. He cared about his favorite mistress, his maid, enough to have her birthday as the password for his vault. He may have also cared slightly about Hetty, so long as she obey him and remain loyal to his orders, which most likely led Elias to hate his wife after they reunited as ghosts.
As Hetty was now a free spirit and caught up with Sam's views, she began rebelling against Elias and was rude when he patronized her, leading Elias to despise his wife and not care what became of her.
Elias was also not bothered even when everyone who he would have to live with hated him, showing that he didn't care how horrible people thought he was. This resulted in him being deemed so cruel that he should go to Hell and no longer live as a ghost.
Following his stint in Hell, he seemingly changed after enduring a year torture and puts in effort to be better. This was seen when he learned all the names of his fellow ghosts, as he previously did not care last time and tried to reconcile with Hetty. However, this did not last as he tricked Pete into selling his soul and after gaining forgiveness, he decided that he could not contain his wickedness and wasted no time using his power on a living. He also attempted to drag Pete into Hell with him but was foiled by the latter fighting back.
