Carol still oblivious to being dead, spoke to guests not realizing they couldn't see her until Sam spotted her talking to her cool guests, who found her body and assumed she was killed by Sam and Jay. When Carol spotted Pete, it became obvious to everyone of what was going on with the ghosts finally telling Sam after her guests fled the scene. Realizing Carol was now a ghost, Pete ran off after noting he was doomed to spend eternity with his traitorous wife while the coroner was called for the party, thus cancelling the party. After realizing the truth, Carol annoyed the other ghosts with her questions about her new ghostly situation. She later joined the séance to try to summon Flower from Heaven.

Because of her presence, Sam and Jay are unable to threaten Elias without harming her in the process though the ghosts list several bad things she has done to Pete such as her affair, tricking him into working with the mob, and others. Carol was notably hurt by these truths but is happy to learn that Pete still considers her to be good in a way. The pair are released when Jay couldn't bear to let Carol suffer for his own sake. When Pete was about to sacrifice himself to exonerate Jay, Carol stepped in and saved her husband by selling her own soul while declaring it was her way of atoning for everything she did to him. Elias accepted her sacrifice, and she was sent to hell. Fortunately, her selfless act saves her because a light shone to retrieve her.
