"Betsy" is the old boiler at Button House and is located in the cellar, where the plague ghosts live.

Early years[]
Betsy was originally installed at Button House in the early fifties when it was brand new and relatively state of the art for the time period. The plague ghosts have in-depth knowledge of how the boiler works, including how to fix it, having watched people perform maintenance on it over the years.
Present day[]
Mike Cooper, in earlier episodes, has difficulty fixing it. Unbeknownst to him, the plague ghosts shout instructions at him, telling him how to fix the boiler, but unlike his wife, Mike cannot hear them.
After Alison gains the ability to see and hear ghosts, she finally manages to convince Mike that she is not crazy by relaying the advice from the plague ghosts, allowing him to successfully fix the boiler.
