"About Last Night" is the second episode of Series 2 of Ghosts and its 8th episode overall. It premiered on 28 September 2020.

Plot[]

The episode opens with a flashback to the plague pit ghosts' past. One of the villagers, Mick, returns from his travels to London and has brought back gifts for his fellow villagers. Unbeknownst to everyone, Mick has contracted the plague which is being carried by the fleas on the fur cloths (which was part of the gifts). The other villagers catch the plague and die. A current-day archaeologist makes this connection to the remnants of fabric in the pit, explaining that they had been brought to the area and were probably the cause of the outbreak.

Back in the present, The Captain is waiting for Alison to start his morning laps. He eventually grows impatient and starts shouting for her. Upstairs, Alison and Mike are in bed with a severe hangover. Alison hears the Captain's shouts, but she still goes over to the window to start him off before going back to sleep. It is not until a few hours later when Alison receives a phone call from a wedding planner called Isabelle from Belle's Weddings.

Isabelle requests to visit Button House for a viewing today and agrees to stop by at one o'clock this afternoon. Despite her hangover, Alison nonetheless decides to freshen up and on her way downstairs, she notices the odd behaviour of the ghostly residents. Mike later awakens when he begins to recall the events from last night. As it turns out, the couple brought their friends back to Button House to continue their party, much to Fanny and the Captain's chagrin.

Following Alison downstairs, the couple are shocked to see the living room turned upside down and their friends sprawled all over the place. Mike has lost his voice from beat-boxing, while Alison feels sick. Due to the mess, Alison considers calling Isabelle back to cancel the appointment, but Mike insists that they can clean up the place in time. Also because they are desperate for money.

While Mike escorts their friends out, Alison goes to the kitchen to fetch the cleaning equipment and the bin bags. She is greeted by Thomas who has appeared to renew his advances towards her. When asked what is wrong with him, Thomas tells Alison that she said something which touched his heart. Recalling the events that took place last night, Alison assumes it was because she told Thomas that she considers him ‘part of the family’.

While Alison begins tidying the living room, Mike goes to gather his shoes. Alison is berated by Fanny and the Captain for her buffoonery last night, but she assures Fanny that nothing was damaged and she's just tidying up a mess she created. However, once Fanny is out of sight, Thomas reappears and he frantically asks Alison where "Dante" went. When Alison becomes confused, Thomas explains that "Dante" is the stuffed dog in the entrance hall.

This prompts Alison to recall last night when she and her friends began playing with the stuffed dog, and Alison brought it everywhere with her during the party. Hurrying to the entrance hall, Alison finds the dog missing. The ghosts tell her that Dante was more than just an ornament to Fanny, because he was her canine companion whom she loved like her own child.

With two hours to tidy up the house, Alison is faced with another problem when the plague pit ghosts appear to tell her that they're living upstairs starting today. Julian takes it upon himself to get to the bottom of the plague pit ghosts problems. This allows Alison to continue tidying up the mansion while the ghosts search for Dante the dog. Meanwhile, Mike gets trapped on the roof while attempting to retrieve his shoes. He is unable to call for help due to his lost voice, prompting him to climb down via the drainpipes.

The odd behaviour of the ghosts is revealed throughout the day. The Captain and Pat fell out with each other after Pat failed to resist the urges of joining the party, Kitty interpreted Alison's ignorance as hate (Alison actually did try to tell her that she couldn't talk to her when people are around by pretending to be on the phone with someone called Kitty), Robin and Mary have had a brief one-time romance, and Alison drunkenly told Thomas that they could have been a couple if she never met Mike and was born in Thomas's time period instead when he was still alive.

Alison eventually finds Dante the dog in her room when she finally remembers that she had taken him to bed with her. She manages to fix Dante on time with the promptings of the ghosts just as Fanny passes by. When asked why her dog is by the fireplace (where he had been put to dry out), Alison tells a white lie by claiming that she wanted to try Dante in a new spot while she was tidying up.

Fanny seemingly buys Alison's lie, commenting that Dante does look nice there since he used to love sitting by the fireplace when he was still alive. Meanwhile, Julian ends up insulting the plague pit ghosts rather than solving their issue which ultimately leads to the plague pit ghosts to return to living downstairs. The Captain and Pat make up with one another, while Robin and Mary decide to remain as friends.

Just as Alison prepares to dispose of the rubbish, Isabelle's car shows up. Not wanting to ruin first impressions, Alison ends up stuffing all the bin bags into a cupboard before greeting Isabelle. However, things take a turn for the worse when the cupboard bursts open causing the bin bags to tumble out. This sparks a chain of events when the armour is knocked over sending papers flying into the fireplace, inadvertently setting Dante the dog on fire. The drainpipes break due to Mike's weight though he manages to get back onto the ground.

The episode ends with Alison finally throwing up after seeing Mike getting drenched by the contents of the drainpipe.
