Synopsis[]

Sam and Jay help Thorfinn create a perfect first date with Flower. Also, Hetty feels slighted by the ghosts' new housemate, Nigel.

Plot[]

A Plot: Thorfinn asks Flower if she'd still be interested in a one-on-one date with him. Flower agrees and Thorfinn begins planning the ultimate date night. Sam asks Jay to cook a delicious meal for them to smell, Alberta offers to perform a concert for them, and Pete is going to do a one-man improv show for them. Although Jay is upset they have to postpone their Valentine's Day dinner, he reluctantly agrees to cook a traditional Viking dinner for Flower. This includes sour ram's testicles, a very special meal Thor's family used to eat before his father left for battle. Jay eats the testicles so that he can describe the flavor to Thor and Flower. Alberta then performs a country song because that is what Thor learned you do from his dating shows. Pete then performs an improv show. Thor and Flower kiss in the hallway and it is the end of a perfect night.

The next morning, Flower appears not to remember any of the date. Thor insists on Sam and Jay canceling their Valentine's Day dinner again and recreating the perfect date night for him and Flower again, tonight. They get through the dinner, Alberta's song, and then Sam forgets what her improv suggestion was for Pete the night before. Flower reminds her, accidentally revealing she remembered the date from the night before. She runs away without explanation.

Sam confronts Flower about what happened. Flower is scared of falling in love with Thor because her last one-on-one boyfriend, Michael, died. They were in law school together and planning on getting married when they graduated. Flower shares this with Thor and he comforts her, reminding her that they are both dead so the risk of loss is less than when they were alive. They kiss and make up.

Meanwhile, Sam and Jay have to have their Valentine's Day six days late, in their kitchen, because Jay's favorite restaurant banned him after canceling on them so many times. But at least Thor keeps the other ghosts out of the kitchen so they can have some privacy as a favor to Sam.

B Plot: Isaac is welcoming Nigel to the Mansion when Hetty comes in to collect Isaac for their weekly ponder by the window. Nigel invites himself along, to Hetty's displeasure. Later, Nancy and Hetty are watching "Bodices and Barons" when Nigel invites Hetty to his welcome tea tomorrow night. Hetty finds out Nancy had been invited earlier than she was, and takes this as a purposeful slight. Hetty engages in pillow-talk with Trevor after one of their basement liaisons about how she feels slighted by Nigel. Trevor suggests throwing a rival party at the same time as Nigel's welcome tea for Alberta's half-birthday. Hetty invites Alberta, Sasappis, and even Nancy, the basement ghost. Nigel ends up alone, welcome tea party without any guests. When Isaac finds out, he seeks out Hetty and tells her off for being cruel to Nigel.

Hetty goes to apologize to Nigel and admits she was jealous and afraid of getting pushed to the side in her friendship with Isaac. Nigel admits to also feeling threatened by Hetty's closeness to Isaac and that the late invitation was intended as a slight, which he apologizes for. Isaac is thrilled that his Nigel and Hetty are getting along—but when he leaves the room, Hetty and Nigel both issue the same ultimatum: that Isaac will be theirs.

Quotes[]

Jay: Okay. What do Vikings eat?
Jay: Happy Valentine's Day to me.
Trevor: Yes! The walls are coming down, baby!
Hetty: Don't read into it. I still view you largely as a replacement for the washing machine. But: matters are on my mind and I need an ear to bend.
Hetty: Yes, I crushed that little girl!
Sasappis: So you're throwing a competing party just to spite Nigel? That sounds like a powder keg that could explode causing tons of unnecessary drama in the house.
Hetty: So you're in?
Sasappis: Uh, yeah! Love it! Thank you, for doing this.
Sasappis: Hetty's throwing an epic party on the same night as Nigel's party for some reason. And: go.
Nigel: If it makes you feel any better, I must admit I was a little threatened by your closeness to Isaac. It is hard to be the significant other when there's such a... significant other. That may be why I issued a late invitation.
